The So-Called Goths of the Goth Subculture Can Never Compare to the Real Goths of Ancient Times
The original, real Goths (Getae) (Gutans) settl-
ed in places before 750 BC. They are of Germ-
anic origin. Gotland (Gottland) (Gothland) (Gut-
land) is supposedly their original home. It's Sw-
eden's largest island. Goths & Gutes have the
same origin. They kept on settling in miscellan-
eous places until AD 1.
King Eric was the first king of the Goths. King
Berig led the Goths on three ships from Scan-
dza to Gothiscandza. Gothiscandza became t-
heir home. They claimed it & named it. They d-
efeated the Vandals. Berig actually helped the
Swedes and Goths come together.
Berig led them 400 years after Eric & they had
similar ruling styles. HA! King Filimer ruled aft-
er Berig. King Tanausis was also a Gothic king.
He battled a king of Egypt for the river of Phas-
is. After he passed away, a rival tribe tried to a-
bduct some of the Gothic ladies.
Those ladies were hardcore so they stood up for
themselves. Yes, they beat those cowards. The
queens Lampedo & Marpesia led those Gothic l-
adies. Those queens founded some Amazons wh-
ich were all-lady groups of warriors. OOH!!!!!
Now, you know where the creators of Xena, W-
arrior Princess got their ideas from. HA!! Her &
Gabrielle were so raw. Hot Lucy Lawless starr-
ed as Xena and she is from New Zealand. Hot R-
enee O' Connor starred as Gabrielle. Renee is fr-
om Katy, Texas. OOH! Renee also has her own
film company called ROC Productions.
The Amali was a prominent dynasty of Goths. The
Goths stressed that miscellaneous names come
from a single, prehistoric ethnonym. The Traditio-
nskern (kernel of tradition) enforced tribal polities.
The Traditionskern were certainly military and/or
aristocratic elite. They created the standard for l-
arger groups to adjust to. Yes, some Goths had
barbarian identities. The Goths focus on the co-
re identity and spirit. Those are so visible in art,
language, and literature. Language was the top
one though.
Modernism, constructionism, and folks' creativ-
ity made room for millions of possibilities. Of c-
ourse, unique identities were brought to the fo-
refront. HA! So anyone could assume the Got-
hs' core identity without even being born into
the tribe. WHOA!
Some people from all walks of life believed in
the Goths' aboriginal commonality and kinship.
Yes, assimilation was even done back then. G-
oths were multi-ethnic and the so-called Goths
still are. HA!
Some of the early writers influenced some of
the Goth subculture earthlings. Horace Walp-
ole was one of the first ones. He wrote the n-
ovel called The Castle of Otranto in 1764.
The writer E.T.A Hoffman flourished from yea-
rs 1803 to 1822. E.T.A. had an afro too. HA!!!
In between that time Washington Irving did rel-
ease the book The Sketch of Geoffrey Crayon,
Gent.
The short stories Rip Van Winkle (1819) & The
Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1820) were included
in Irving's book. Edgar Allan Poe got serious ab-
out writing in 1835. Charles Baudelaire started w-
riting in 1839. Poe continued until 1849 & Char-
les kept going until 1867.
Howard Phillips Lovecraft excelled from 1913 to
1937. Rest in peace, Sirs. The early Dracula, Fr-
ankenstein, wolf, phantom, and other creature f-
ilms also influenced so-called Goths. Rest in pe-
ace, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney, & Boris Karloff
The Bride of Frankenstein movie (1935) influen-
ced nations of so-called Goths. Rest in peace,
hot Elsa Lanchester.
The 150 single-panel cartoons of the Addams F-
amily did too. Charles Addams created them fr-
om 1938 until his death in 1988. The Addams F-
amily sitcom gave the characters names and w-
as on air from 1964-1966. They were silly & the-
ir media is still funny (including the movies that
were made with their characters).
The funny show The Munsters also aired from
1964-1966. They were just as silly. Fred Qwyn-
ne acted like a big, goofy kid. HAH!!!! Those s-
hows influenced so-called Goths image-wise &
intellectually (in odd ways). HA!
So did Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Elvira hosted
the Movie Macabra Show starting in 1981. I rem-
ember her immediately. OOH! She did that show
for several years & showed some of the most w-
ildest movies.
She even starred in her own films, had products
made with her likeness, & of course video-gam-
es created. She was having cash coming in all
directions. HAH-HAH-HAH-HA! Hot Cassandra
Peterson played the role of Elvira. OOH!! Come
here, lady. HA!
The Swiss artist H.R. Giger did well & painted
and/or illustrated some so-called Gothic image-
ry. He did become known in the 60's, 70's, 80's,
90's, and 00's.
He came up with the Alien design for the Alien m-
ovie franchise. He also made the microphone sta-
nd for Johnathan Davis (Korn vocalist). Giger ev-
en have a line of Ibanez guitars. He passed away
in May 2014. Rest in peace, Sir.
In the 1950's, Charlie Feathers became known.
His song Can't Hardly Stand It was released in
1956. In 1964, the band Velvet Underground w-
as started. In 1965, the band the Doors form-
ed. Those folks made uncompromising music.
In 1967, music critic John Stickney started say-
ing Gothic rock after visiting Jim Morrison. He
went to Jim's dark wine cellar & said that the
room was the best one to honor the so-called
Gothic rock of the band the Doors.
I had their greatest hits CD & they do sound e-
erie sometimes. So John implemented the word
in music, especially rock & metal. It's currently
utilized in thousands of genres for sure. HA!
The word Gothic became so used that mamm-
als constantly let their imaginations run wild. The
beginnings of so-called Gothic rock, death-rock,
or whatever rock utilized classic, horror films' l-
ooks. Some of those folks got inspired from ho-
rror pictures' soundtracks.
The Velvet Underground did a release a so-ca-
lled Gothic song that I have not heard yet. HA!
That bold band also used the names the Warl-
ocks and the Falling Spikes. They probably ha-
ve made other so-called Gothic songs. HA!!!! I
have to listen to some of their albums again. I
know that they were avante-garde and gritty.
The band the Damned began in 1976 and so
did the band Siouxsie & the Banshees (Janet
and the Icebergs). The Misfits started in 1977.
The Misfits created a humorous song called G-
houls Night Out. Well, it is funny to me. I lau-
gh every time Glenn Danzig says: "ghouls-gh-
ouls!" HAH-HAH-HAH!!!!!! I have some of their
other songs too. I'll get some of their albums.
Siouxsie & the Banshees released their LP
Scream in 1978. The band Killing Joke start-
ed in 1978 & made a nice mix of industrial,
electronic, metal, & alternative. They influen-
ced nations without a doubt. I have heard o-
nly 1 of their songs. The song Blood On Y-
our Hands can be found on CMJ New Mus-
ic Monthly compilation 116. Trust me, that
is a good 2003 CD.
The band Christian Death started in 1979 and
so did the band 45 Grave. I have some of the-
ir songs too. In year 1979, the band Bauhaus
released the song Bela Lugosi's Dead. Wikip-
edia was wrong. Siouxsie & the Banshees d-
id not release it or even cover it. I even sea-
rched for that. HA!!! The song hits eerily hard.
The band Sepultura did cover it and it is a
bonus track on their 2001 LP Nation.
The band the Southern Death Cult was foun-
ded in 1981. A member left and formed the b-
and Death Cult in 1983. Ian Astbury is the o-
ne who left. They are known all around the
world as the band the Cult. HA!
A lady friend of mine is a fan of the band
the Cramps & they are talented. Their s-
ong I Can't Hardly Stand It rocks. They c-
overed Charlie Feathers song. Even Charl-
ie made the song funny-like. HAH-HAH!
After hearing their version of the song & d-
ownloading it, I searched for the band's his-
tory. I found out about the history of the ba-
nd's stage antics. I will not learn about the
Cramps. That cover song is all I need to he-
ar from them. It is a hilarious cover song.
I do not like what they have done on stage
antics-wise. I think that they would have b-
een better off focusing on the instrumenta-
tion & unique vocalizing. Some bands go
too over-board when clowning around. It t-
akes away from their skills sometimes.
Lux should have known better because h-
is wife was a band member. What he did o-
nstage disrespected her totally even though
it was just an act. He made himself look like
a tall sissy. Was he one? Who knows & who
cares? Hopefully, he apologized to her after t-
hose shows.
Charlie Feathers did influenced Lux vocally
& lyrically. Charles was a country music &
rockabilly musician. Charles had a vocal st-
yle that sounded like hiccups. HA!! He was
bold and odd & he created some songs with
blues musician Junior Kimbrough. Mr. Feat-
hers also studied with Junior.
Have you all heard of the band 69 Eyes? Th-
ey actually deserve their success because
they paid dues since 1989. Google them &
their song Lost Boys. Yes, you know that
they watched the film The Lost Boys sev-
eral times.
I have almost all of Nine Inch Nails' albums.
Even some of the remix ones. HA!! Trent c-
an even make some of those sound like co-
mpletely different songs.
Trent has some of the most strongest lyrics
ever. I do not agree with everything he says
though, but he has a right to lash out like he
does. Trent Reznor is a loner too who got l-
ucky with some ladies. HA!
I'm in the abyss with industrial, hard rock,
metal, and various other genres too. I can
name thousands of bands that you all nev-
er heard of. HAH-HAH! I learned about ba-
nds from a variety of countries.
The movies The Island of Doctor Igor ('71),
The Hunger (1983), Beetlejuice (1988), Ed-
ward Scissorshands (1990), Nightmare Be-
fore Christmas (1993), The Crow (1994), &
The Crow 2: City of Angels (1996) gave ear-
thlings ideas too.
So did the films Blade (1998), Blade 2 (2002),
Underworld (2003), Blade 3 (2004), the Corp-
se Bride ('05), Underworld: Evolution (2006),
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009), & U-
nderworld: Awakening (2012). Hot Kate Bec-
kinsale is so witty.
Tim Burton is still an artist & you can tell fr-
om a lot of his films. He definitely knew abo-
ut the Goth subculture. Some of his movies i-
ncluded dark tones & imagery.
I certainly had the movies Beetlejuice, Edwa-
rd Scissorhands, Batman, Batman Returns,
Batman Forever, & Nightmare Before Christ-
mas on VHS. HA!! I also purchased the film
Batman Forever even though Tim didn't dir-
ect it.
Tim produced it & Joel Schumacher directed
it. It still is timeless too. I did purchase Joel's
movie Batman & Robin to complete that era's
collection. HA!
Hot Anne Rice (Anne Rampling) write dark b-
ooks so she also gave ideas to so-called Got-
hs. Neil Gaiman did create a comic book seri-
es called The Sandman (1989-1996). Mick M-
ercer wrote the book 21st Century Goth ('02).
Hot Nancy Kilpatrick created the Goth Book: A-
Compendium for the Darkly Inclined (2004). Hot
Liisa Ladouceur made the Encyclopedia Gothica
(2011). A lot of the folks who claim to be Goths
are sadly mistaken.
Some of the history is at the beginning of this ar-
ticle. Their are some similarities between the ori-
ginal Goths & the Goth subculture folks. Like tri-
bes, unique identities, toughness, boldness, inte-
lligence, creativity, & endurance. You need to sh-
are this info with any so-called Goths so that th-
ey get facts.
