The March of 1963
Martin Luther King Jr. continued with his non-violent sta-
nce regarding civil rights movements. He even finished s-
ome marches for folks who were not allowed to comple-
te their own.
He visited the White House to speak with John Fitzgera-
ld Kennedy about civil rights. Kennedy truly wanted to a-
ssist with those but focused on other issues.
Since that was the case, King Jr. decided to have a gat-
hering in Washington. He invited people from all over the
world. They came to participate in a life-changing march;
that did tug at many heartstrings.
A lot of great ideas were mentioned among them, so ins-
piring collaborations happened. That type of networking d-
id make the world much better.
Rachelle Horowitz and Joyce Ladner were the main organ-
izers of the March. Folks arrived via buses, cars, trucks, v-
ans, trains, & planes.
Harry Belafonte, Sidney Potier, Tony Curtis and Sammy D-
avis Jr. attended. Steve McQueen, Shelly Winters, Diahann
Carroll, and Charlton Heston were there too.
Over two-hundred thousand folks made up the crowd. Peter,
Paul, & Mary sung at the March. Joan Baez performed her
solo set and did a duet with rebel, folk rocker Bob Dylan.
He also did his solo set. Those artists fuse a variety of ge-
nres of music together, obscure instruments, & deep lyrics.
They became living legends and still remain rebellious.
Archbishop O' Boyle spoke so well at the gathering. John L-
ewis did an awesome job at the podium too. King Jr. was sp-
eaking so eloquently for the destiny of the democracy.
That entire march was televised for millions to view, hear, &
learn. Before JFK could actually get to the civil rights' issues,
he was assassinated later that year. Some folks were so jeal-
ous of his potential.
Lee Harvey Oswald was the ignorant nut who was blamed for
shooting him. Lynden B. Johnson knew what JFK planned to
do, so he signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
King Jr. was at that signing so his dream was kind of coming
true. More folks started realizing that there is only one race, &
that is the human race. WHOA!
