The Pedal the Cause Fundraiser

Sal Lambroso survived pancreatic cancer and he is honoring Dr. Andrew M. Lowry. That d-
octor made sure that Sal lived to tell his story. Sal certainly is still in this world and he par-
ticipated in Pedal the Cause cycling fundraiser. It went on from September 20, 2014 throu-
gh September 21, 2014. Sal has been riding bikes for years and he even earns money from
it. He founded the company Leader Bikes.

The events raise money for cancer patients. Lambroso rode for 10 miles in the Pedal the Ca-
use San Diego fundraiser. He sympathizes with all other cancer patients in this world & they
are like sisters and brothers to him. Sal also want to give back to the UC San Diego Moores
Cancer Center because they were in his corner.

The Pedal the Cause San Diego fundraiser began in 2013. Its mission is to raise money for c-
ancer research that is done at the 3 cancer centers that are linked to the National Center Insti-
tute. Those 3 are the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, the Sansford-Burnham Medical R-
Research, and the Salk Institute. Those 3 did sign up with the San Diego Cancer Council.

The fundraiser generated $425,000 in research grants for all 3 of those centers to split. They r-
eceived the money in 2013 after 350 cyclists rode in the Pedal the Cause San Diego. About 700
riders participated in the event that went on in September 2014. The people did bring in close to
$1,000,000 and they are proud of themselves. The 3 one-day rides consisted of 10, 25, or 50 m-
iles. The 1 two-day rides allowed the cyclists to travel between 150 and 170 miles.

Lambroso's friends, employees, and an oncology surgeon rode with him. Andrew M. Lowry is
the surgeon who removed over 80% of Sal's cancerous pancreas. He did not have to go throu-
gh radiation or chemotherapy. The cancer did not spread through his lymph nodes. Sal did not
receive diabetes either. Dr. Lowry even rode his bike in a Pedal the Cause San Diego event in
2013. Fundraisers like that one does wonderful, heartfelt things.
