The Anti-Cancer Treatments Cediranib and Olaparib Are a Tough Tag Team

Representatives of the National Cancer Institute are backing up the Dana-Farber Institu-
te. The Dana-Farber team are currently running a wonderful clinical trial that is phase two.
Some Lancet Oncology associates divulged some good news on their website. The ther-
apies cediranib and olaparib were put to the test against olaparib by itself.

Those drugs fight ovarian cancer after it resurfaces in our ladies. The researchers did a p-
hase one study that included ninety patients with platinum-sensitive, recurrent ovarian c-
ancer. Forty-five participants took the mixture of the two treatments and forty-five ladies
were given only olaparib.

Ovarian cancer that comes back replies to chemotherapy agents that are based in platin-
um. The employees of the Dana-Farber Institute who conducted the first study accumulat-
ed nice results. The progressive free survival (PFS) was close the eighteen months for tho-
se who consumed cediranib and olaparib.

The rate was nine months for the ladies who took olaparib by itself. Some who take the m-
ixture of the drugs experience some side effects like diarrhea, hypertension, & drowsiness
on rare occasions.

Ursula Matulonis, MD is the Senior Author of the miraculous study. She is also the Medic-
al Director of the Gynecologic Oncology at the Susan F. Smith Center for Ladies' Cancers,
which is situated within the Dana-Farber Institute. She knows that cancer will reform inside
some of the patients, so her and her team are thinking of better ways to fight it.

Ursula's co-worker  Joyce Liu, MD, MPH, is the Head of the study that is going on now. In
2015, Ursula and her team will run the third phase of their needed trials. They will continue
to utilize the working combination of cediranib and olaparib. Olaparib is a poly (ADP-ribose)
therapy that stops cancer cells from repairing DNA that is torn.

Since that is the case, the cancer cells die. Cediranib halts the formation of the new blood
vessels that the tumors create, so that hinders their growth. We need to applaud them for
their efforts.
