The Pathogen HPV is Very Harmful

The National Dental and Craniofacial Research gave Michelle Ozbun a grant for 2 years. It
is for $275,000 & she is putting it to good use. She is utilizing the money to study human
papillomavirus. Michelle is a helpful professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecol-
ogy at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.

Michelle also holds a title at the UNM Medical Center as the Maralyn S. Budke Professor in
Viral Oncology. She wants to decrease chemotherapy and the radiation treatments that head
and neck cancer patients receive. Michelle is passionate about the cause and she wants pati-
ents to have better lives.

Some HPV will give cancer a power to make the cell clone itself, so that will stop the cell fr-
om utilizing its own natural forces. The obligate intracelluar pathogen HPV is just like other v-
iruses. It depends on the machinery that's within the cell so that it can make itself. The virus
is parasitic and it really will command the cell to create proteins, multiply, and exist longer.

The HPV will utilize the passageway to cause serious infection to the cell and take control of
it. Along that passageway, HPV will choose a standout receptor and it is called EGFR. That
abbreviation stands for epidermal growth factor receptor. Receptors rests on the surface of
the cells that HPV cause infection to in the body.

The anti-cancer drug Cetuximab, chemotherapy, and radiation make an elite team that helps
people with the HPV-induced head and neck cancers. The people with the non-HPV-induced
head and neck cancers did not reply well to the treatments. Plenty of side effects did occur
within all of the patients though.

The FDA gave the seal of approval to the therapeutic Cetuximab and it puts up a steel-like sh-
ied against the epidermal growth factor receptors. The treatment has side effects because the
epidermal growth factor receptors are residing on a lot of the cells' surfaces. Cetuximab goes
after the cancer cells more and leave the normal ones alone. Cancer cells have large amounts
of epidermal growth factor receptors so that is why those cells are targeted sniper-like.

I am glad that they came up with some of the best ways to treat folks who received cancer with
HPV. I also am happy that more therapies are brought to the forefront for all of the other cancer
patients. Please give more funding to centers and hospitals worldwide.
