The Entity Avnet Found Ways to Stay So Efficient

In 1921, the company Avnet was founded and John Beimfohr is the Senior Director of
Integration. They are one of the largest entities on Earth. Avnet ships out quality emb-
edded systems, electronic components, and enterprise computer & storage products.

In 1963, the board decided to branch out in Canada so the subsidiary Avent Internatio-
nal was started. A little over five years ago, Avnet did open up a space in Chandler, Ari-
zona. They felt that it had to be done so they shut down a lot of the older facilities.

Avnet grew rapidly, serviced the company IBM, and other establishments. In the fiscal
year 2013, the company Avnet earned $25.5 billion dollars. The Global Solutions Cent-
er (GSC) is one of their buildings and it was made to conserve energy, recycle, & decr-
ease garbage. The company produces and transport tons of goods.

That particular location is all-around efficient and it is their pride and joy. The other ones
in Arizona were not up to par so that is why the GSC was created. It is a mulitasking pl-
ace for sure and it is so futuristic.

The Global Solutions Center is so optimized and it is 228,000 square feet. The employe-
es make and ship 700,000 units annually. The GSC is equipped with great hardware inte-
gration, software configuration, systems maintenance, assembly, packaging, & logistics.

They really needed the extra space because the associates create lots of large systems.
Avnet also had to be ready to handle the constant demand for their products. They want
to continue to make improvements. Avnet hired over 320 employees for that property, th-
ey make changes for the better, and they are rewarded rightfully.

The Global Solution Center's receiving department uses some of the shipping department
in the mornings. The shipping department utilizes the receiving area during the late aftern-
oons. The GSC has the JDA management system in place. They do have the just-in-time
systems (JIT) so those folks handle serious workloads quite often.

They have Avnet's refurbishing program set up and it has held 120 tons of electronic waste
from landfills. The entity surely keeps the Lead in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED)
in mind, even though Avnet did not go through LEED's process to get certified. The GSC
does meet the LEEDS Silver standards regarding design and operations.

The Global Solutions Center has the ISO 140001 certification though. The ceiling of the pla-
ce has high-density insulation and high UV coating on most of the windows. In other words,
the heat stays low and the light go off where there is no one.

The air-conditioning system has been seriously upgraded. Avnet recycles close to a ton of c-
ardboard daily and a little over 99 percent of their byproducts. An employee discovered that a
lot of classrooms can utilize their foam. The company Avnet are at least trying to do their pa-
rts to promote green energy to an extent. Let us give them a round of applause.
